“Laos is a water abundant country but since change in climate pattern and land use has become more evident, water planning has become equally more challenging. Increasing flood and drought as well as water pollution are now major concerns that require coordinated actions from all public and private sectors to come out with responsive water planning. Technical tools for knowledge building and models for prediction of water related risks are likely useful but seem to be too complex for most of us. We expect from this training to initiate better communication between technical and non-technical people for better participatory water planning.” Madame Buangean Udomchit, Deputy Director of Water Resources Department, Ministry of Resources and Environment.

From January to October 2014, more than 400 individual trainees from water sector in Laos at central, provincial and basin levels in Nam Ngum, Xaibangfai, Nam Thuan, Sekong and Nam Ou Basin have actively participated in eight different on-the-job IWRM training courses.
